HW #1 - P#1 - Mass, Force and Gravitational Acceleration

what is lbm and what is lbf?.. is it pount-meter and pound-foot? correct me if i'm wrong, i cnverted the mass from lbm to lbf...but why the upward force applied has the same unit as the mass which is in lbf?...

pounds-mass is the unit of mass in the AE system and the symbol for it is lbm.

pounds-force is the unit of force in the AE system and the symbol for it is lbf.

You cannot "convert" lbm to lbf anymore than you can convert kg into N. It doesn't work in SI or in AE. Mass and force are different.

Just think of lbm as equivalent (not equal, just equivalent or comparable) to kg and lbf as equivalent to Newtons and you will be OK.
